Guidance on mechanisms to reduce inequalities in the uptake of immunisation amongst individuals under the age of 19 years (including targeted vaccines)

Date published:  Expected June 2009
State: Unpublished

Nationally, the childhood immunisation programme is offered routinely through primary care and other services. However, in England, inequalities in immunisation uptake persist. A range of social, demographic, maternal and infant related factors have been identified that are associated with either partial or no immunisation (Samad et al., 2006). Children and young people from families who experience barriers to accessing health services are also at increased risk of being unimmunised or not fully up to date with the immunisation schedule (Peckham et al., 1989).
